Swenson’s Weekly Snapshot – GDU Report for the Week of May 18, 2021
What an exciting time of year!
The crops are planted and some extremely timely precipitation is moving in. Now we just need to avoid severe weather.
Corn and soybeans across the tri-state area have emerged quickly with the 80 degree temps the last few days. The rain in the forecast has everyone excited: the whole area has a chance of rain every day for the next week!
60’s for highs move into North Dakota towards the weekend with 70’s and 80’s across SD and MN. I don’t think any farmers in ND will complain about the temp as long as it’s raining!
Soil temperatures have come up nearly 15 degrees in the last week with many in the mid 60’s at 4”. That means even the last planted fields should be out of the ground within a week.
Be on the lookout: weeds are coming up everywhere! Whether you are getting a pre down or following up with a post-treatment, stay vigilant and spray small weeds.
The agronomy team and I will be traveling the countryside this week taking as many emergence notes as possible, installing weather stations and learning as much as we can about all the exciting new products in the lineup. If you have any questions or would like to tour a few fields give me a call!
