Is Your Corn Ready to Harvest? Use Our GDU Tool to Find Out!
For the past 16 years I’ve run custom GDU reports for our region and it has changed the way I gauge how a year is going. It also provides a good record to help define what “normal” really is, and, as promised, can help YOU determine when your corn is ready to harvest!
I’ve heard of this report (we’re calling it Swenson’s Weekly Snapshot) being used for everything from measuring crop progress to estimating upcoming propane demand.
Each year, I start graphing progress the week most operations begin to plant corn. I started in May this year and will continue until the harvest or the first frost.
Click on the map below to find current and last year accumulated GDUs for specific towns. The graph depicts the departure from normal, showing above and below average progress throughout the season.
Each week, we also provide notes from our footprint. I hope you find them as helpful as I do.
