Remember, Single Bag Solution (SBS) products offer refuge right in the bag, eliminating the requirement to plant a separate refuge. This season, all PFS hybrids containing the VT2 PRO trait are being packaged as a SBS — a blend of 95% VT2 PRO traited seed plus 5% refuge seed. In this picture, the 5% refuge seed is colored purple and is scattered among the traited seed.
It can get confusing. But having a single bag containing both the selected product and its refuge, will definitely make your life easier in the future.
Remember, when selecting corn seed, genetics must still be your first consideration:
- Choose a genetics package that will maximize yield in your specific conditions.
- Then select the specific trait that you need to protect the yield of those genetics (Genuity VT2 PRO if you don’t have rootworm; Genuity VT3 PRO, SmartStax, or Agrisure 3000GT if you do have rootworm).
- Consider the refuge required.
- Make sure you’re buying the very highest quality seed that is available.
Then after you’ve planted, look back and smile. The days of separate refuge products will soon be gone.
