Sweet! … Sweet Corn!
Maybe it is because I grew up in Iowa, but I truly believe sweet corn is one of God’s greatest gifts to man. There is just something about butter dripping down your chin as you bite into tender, sweet kernels that is almost a sacred moment. And invariably, when you begin preparing the corn to cook by pulling back the husks, memories of childhood come flooding back.
At Peterson Farms Seed, our sweet corn patch is a little bigger than most garden plots. Since we’ve got our plot planter out anyway, we just fill it up with sweet corn and make a couple passes. That means we have plenty of sweet corn to share with customers, and most years, lots of sweet corn to share with philanthropies around the area.
Our sweet corn picking staff deserves a round of applause! This year, they picked plenty of corn to share around the neighborhood, including The Salvation Army, Cass County Jail, mission trip fundraisers, and the Great Plains Food Bank.
Thank you, guys! I know the sweet corn, and the memories they conjured up, were very appreciated.
